The company was founded in 1972 by Rudolf Meyer Sen. After taking over the Toyota and Daihatsu brand representations, Rudolf Meyer AG became a joint-stock company in 1976.

After almost 15 years the cooperation with Toyota and Daihatsu was dissolved, at the same time a new challenge was taken up and in 1991 the brand representation of Mazda was taken over. In 1997 the company was handed over to the next generation. From now on Ruedi Meyer Jun. leads the Rudolf Meyer AG. Already 10 years after the handover, Ruedi Meyer Jun. realized a new business segment, which still exists today, the motorcycles.After almost 20 years, the cooperation with Mazda was discontinued in 2012. In 2015, the takeover of the Unicar workshop concept took place, which still exists today.
